About Your Trainer

Cheryll Sachs is the founder and owner of On Mahj Time LLC. She is a Mahjong instructor and an active member of the Mahj Life Instructor Guild. Cheryll is passionate about helping players build confidence, sharpen their strategic thinking skills, and most importantly, have fun while learning the game.

With more than 25 years of experience as a corporate trainer, instructional designer, and knowledge management professional, Cheryll has spent her career helping people understand complex concepts, develop new skills, and gain confidence in their abilities. Today, she brings that same passion for teaching to the Mahjong table, creating learning experiences that are engaging, approachable, and enjoyable for players of all skill levels.

Known for making complex strategy easy to understand, Cheryll combines proven adult-learning techniques with a supportive and encouraging teaching style. Her lessons focus not only on the mechanics of the game, but also on the thought process behind successful decision-making. Players learn how to recognize opportunities, adapt their strategies, and approach the game with greater confidence and purpose.

Above all, Cheryll believes Mahjong is about more than tiles and strategy. It's about learning something new, building friendships, sharing laughter, and creating connections that extend far beyond the game itself. Her goal is to help every student feel welcomed, supported, and confident as they discover the joy of Mahjong.

A longtime resident of Leesburg, Virginia, Cheryll has proudly called the community home for more than 25 years. She lives with her husband, Adam, and their two beloved dogs—Mocha, a lovable Cocker Spaniel rescue, and Jessie, a tiny and very spirited five-pound Shorkie who never lets her size limit her personality.

When she's not teaching Mahjong, Cheryll enjoys spending time with her family: her son Andy and his wife Alexa, owners of Winding Creek Farm Wedding & Events in Lovettsville, and her son Brad, who lives in Reston. She also enjoys traveling, entertaining family and friends, and finding every opportunity possible to gather around a Mahjong table.
