FAQ — On Mahj Time LLC

Question 1

Do I need to provide anything?

Accepted Answer

Nope! We bring everything needed — tiles, racks, dice, and any instructional materials. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm. If you have a current-year NMJL card, bring it along!

Question 2

Where do sessions take place?

Accepted Answer

Sessions can be held at your home, a community space, a venue of your choice, or at one of our scheduled public event locations. We travel to you!

Question 3

How far in advance should I book?

Accepted Answer

We recommend reaching out at least 3–4 weeks in advance, especially for private lessons and events. Public bootcamps and open play sessions can often be booked closer to the date, as long as spots remain.

Question 4

What if I've never played before?

Accepted Answer

Perfect — we love teaching beginners! Our Fundamentals Bootcamp takes learners from never having played to playing independently, all in one session.

Question 5

Can I book a session for a corporate team?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Our Event / Party and Private Lessons offerings are both well-suited for corporate team-building. Reach out via the Contact page and we'll put together a custom package.

Question 6

What is the NMJL card?

Accepted Answer

The National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) publishes an annual card listing all the winning hands for that year. It's an essential part of American Mahjong play. You can purchase one at the NMJL website or at many Mahjong retailers.

Question 7

How many people do I need for a private session?

Accepted Answer

Private Lessons require a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 8. Guided Play requires a minimum of 4 players. Mahjong is a 4-player game, so having at least 4 is essential!
